What’s screencasting
So what is screencasting? Well, one of the main features we offer is a very inexpensive content management system for your website. People want to be able to udpate their own content and I’m all for that. Technology shouldn’t be an obstacle preventing you from communicating through your web site. Still, people have varying levels of comfort with technology. So for some of our clients we’ll actually make screencasts.
Screencasting is using an application to record your desktop as you’re using it, including audio, and convert it into a flash animation video file that people can watch in their web browsers. To do this I use a software called CamStudio. It works very well and again, it’s free. Try it out.
And if you need to edit the sound for your podcast
then I highly recommend Audacity. It’s free list most of the tools I use. The only software I really pay for is Adobe and Quark. Anyway Audacity is one of the easiest to use and most popular sound editing applications on the web. Very easy to install. After i get the sound file out of Gizmo, I use Audacity to edit the sound file before I upload it to our web server to put the podcast online.
Useful online pdf creator
PrimoOnline provides a super-fast way to create PDF files online, without the need to install any PDF software. Simply upload your file, enter your email address, and our server-based PDF creator will quickly convert it to PDF and deliver it straight to your email inbox.
Very useful tool. The great part about it is that it’s online. There is also a desktop application you can download to create pdf’s through your applications. You can find that here.
OpenOffice
I’m a big believer in opensource software. Mainly because you generally can’t be the price point. Free is pretty good. Along these lines OpenOffice might be for you. It’s a business application suite along the lines of Microsoft Office. One great thing about it is that you save your documents as Microsoft Office documents. What that means is that someone can send you a word doc, you can edit it, and send them back your edits as a word doc. They’ll be none the wiser that you didn’t spend $250 (approx) for the Microsoft office suite. I’ve used OpenOffice for years and highly recommend it. Visit OpenOffice.org to download the software. Let me know how it works out for you.
